Let me clarify something before I say anything on this. I am still opposed to much of the content of this film and the series. Much less the fact that this is in two parts when it was clearly padded to achieve that end and the movie viewing has only strengthened that.

However, for what it was worth in a midnight showing...I actually enjoyed myself. Here's why, and consider this a middle-man perspective/review. All opinions are my own.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Good -

- Early scenes before the wedding - When the main actors finally started exchanging some funny dialogue instead of acting so emotional or tortured, the feel of the series quickly turned around. The first thing I was wondering however was why this wasn't promoted as the tenor of the series earlier in.

- The Wolf Debate - OK, this was good because I was laughing my a** off at how silly this came out to be. The cheesy dialogue like, "I am the grandson of ______ Black. I wasn't born to serve under you." just made it even more awesome. Granted, I like the idea of sentient/non-insane werewolves over the rabid beasts we see in about 96% of werewolf films, but the telepathy and distortion of the voices was too funny and ruined the 'seriousness' of the event.

- The Make-up Effects - Seriously, I have to agree with Spoony on this one. The guy who did the make-up effects for this film with Bella...Wow. That was a scary effect, seeing how much Bella was being drained of blood and nutrients by this demonic half-vampire inside her. Stewart looked like a skeleton at the end. Just Wow.

- The Birthing Scene - Although this was handled incredibly poorly, to the point where you couldn't quite tell what was going on without looking things up, this scene did raise my pulse a bit.

- Hearing others crying in as the film went on - I'll be honest here. I wasn't at all moved by this movie, but hearing others crying during the later scenes was a bit schadenfreude-esque. Not because I enjoy seeing/hearing others in agony or being emotionally devastated, but because I believe that nothing in the movie was worthy of that kind of reaction. Even though I knew what was coming.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

And now for something completely different. The Bad. These will be hyper condensed to save time and space, unless I run into something I should, or want to, comment on.

- The editing

- The Imprinting Scene - I don't care how much Twihards want to argue the logistics of this idea but here's the core math, in human years.

Jacob is about 16-18 at Renesmees' birth, and she will mature in 4-7 human years. Not vampire years, HUMAN years. So, take those extremes and add them up. Jacob will be 20-25 by the time Renesmee is of age to reproduce. That is clear pedophilia. Even if wolves do commit incest in the wild, Jacob is not a wolf nor was he born as one. He is a shapeshifter who was made to love Renesmee because Word of God said so.

So yes, Stephanie Meyer, that scene sickens me and it stuns me how no one has truly called you on it yet.

- The acting - It's Twilight. Almost enough said. That frown on Bellas' face most of the time instead of genuine emotion is galling. However, when even Carlisle is showing no emotion at what he thinks is something unheard of in vampire lore, you know the actors are just half-assing it and no care went into the script.

- The wolf effects - I'll be very honest here. I love werewolves in cinema and literature. However, the CGI quality of these creatures has gone down over time. It is vastly inferior to films like Van Helsing, which was also bad, and even top notch shows like Doctor Who and Being Human USA. How is that possible?

I will grant them one thing however. The animator did get some of the lesser known expressions/actions of wolves right and they seemed to blend both human and wolf in that respect.

- The padding

- The montages

- Jacobs' character - Going back to me being a werewolf fan for a minute, I do like Jacob in some ways, aside from being a shapeshifter. He's just an overall cool guy, until you see how he behaves in this movie and Eclipse. He began to come across like a rapist/bastard instead of being someone who had legitimate cares for a friend. I guess I should have seen the warning signs in his dialogue in New Moon.

- The music - Emo pop and super cheap keyboard scores, plus every song was too freaking loud. When the music overtakes the scenes, something went wrong.

- Bellas' insistence on giving birth - I got nothing on this. She is, without a doubt, the dumbest person on the planet if she thinks ignoring an opinion pool that is 100% saying "You will die if you give birth" is a good idea. Even when Edward snaps at her, it achieves nothing.

- Sound design - Mumbling, lack of acting, poorly scored music, badly volume controlled music...the list goes on.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Final opinion - 3 out of 10

This movie was not a complete waste of 10$, but for that kind of money, I could have bought a good book like The Hunger Games. (Got some awesome Young Adult novels from Barnes and Nobel before that, however.) Rent it if you must, but in my opinion, it is not worth watching or investing it long-term.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What do you guys think? Was this honest? Unfair? Did I not catch something? Comment and let me know. Until next time, Auf Wiedersehen.
